RPG Superstar!

For those who haven’t seen it, Paizo Publishing (former home of Dragon and Dungeon magazines and current producer of the Pathfinder Adventure Paths) is running a contest called “RPG Superstar.”  It’s a multiround contest being conducted in full view of the community.  It’s great stuff so far, and the “three related monsters” round is coming up.

My personal favorite in the top 8 is Clinton Boomer, also known as Hennet from the hilarious D&D PSAs on YouTube.  Go Boomer!

I submitted a wondrous item for the contest, but it was too prosaic I reckon.  Here it is, though, for your use.  It’s obviously balanced with the Necklace of Fireballs and are modeled after Zuni (and other Native American) fetish necklaces.

Fetish Necklace

This necklace of shell and turquoise beads also bears a number of inch-long carvings of various animals, carefully crafted with miniature, etched silver runes upon each fetish.  This necklace comes in several varieties.  Each item bears 10 fetishes when created.

Spirit Fetish: The original form of the necklace, its fetishes are carved from turquoise, travertine, and a variety of other minerals.  Each fetish, when removed from the necklace, generates a Summon Nature’s Ally III spell effect.  Until all the fetishes are expended, the necklace also allows the user to Speak with Animals as the spell.

White Fetish: The fetishes on this neclace are carved from fossil ivory, white marble, quartz, and other white stones.  Each fetish, when removed from the necklace, generates a Summon Monster III spell effect that can only summon good-aligned creatures.  Until all the fetishes are expended, the necklace also allows the user to speak Celestial.

Black Fetish: The fetishes on this necklace are carved from ebony, black marble, and other dark materials.  Each fetish, when removed from the necklace, generates a Summon Monster III spell effect that can only summon evil-aligned creatures.  Until all the fetishes are expended, the necklace also allows the user to speak Infernal.

Moderate conjuration, faint evil (black), faint good (white); CL 5th; Craft Wondrous Item, Summon Monster III (white or black), Summon Nature’s Ally III (spirit); Price 1500 gp; Weight 1 lb.
