Help Haiti, Get Games

In case you don’t read any other gaming blog or forum, I thought I’d mention the Haiti earthquake relief effort RPGNow/DriveThruRPG is running.  You can donate $20 and you get free PDF products from a staggering number of companies in return – more than $1400 worth!  It’s like 180 different products.  And the cash goes to Doctors Without Borders, a “known good” charity (as opposed to, sadly, some of the dodgy ones that have sprung up to profit off the disaster).  You should consider donating more, just to help and not for graft, but there’s no harm in getting some graft for $20 of it!  (You can donate $5 or $10 instead, and they match it, but no freebies.)  As of this writing they’ve raised $72,125!!!  I bet you didn’t know there were even that many gamers that knew how to get to the Internet.  🙂

They’ve had such demand that they’re totally overwhelmed, you can’t download yet – but no rush.  If you haven’t yet, go check this out!

  1. I managed to get all my stuff. It took forever to download, but I got it. Great deal for a great cause.

  2. Yeah, I bought tonight but I’ll lay off a couple days till the peak is over. There’s no hurry, it’s thousands of pages of stuff!

  3. I got an email from them a few hours ago; you can now download the items from the $20 donation bundle. Moreover, they’re now all added automatically to your list of purchased products, rather than needing to be individually added to your cart and paid for with the coupon.

  4. I still can’t download, the server’s too busy. Dang, they’ve made $110k for the relief effort already! Nice.

  5. I’ve been downloading my stuff for the past couple of days. I’m not done yet but I should be in a day or two. I just don’t have enough time to download it all at once. 🙂

  6. Man, the Haiti pack has some great stuff in it. Sure, some of it is d20 shovelware, but it’s got the Serenity (aka Firefly) RPG, Trail of Cthulhu Player’s Guide (the new GUMSHOE_based CoC), 3:16 (the indie space marines game), Spirit of the Season for Spirit of the Century, Damnation Decade from Green Ronin, Spycraft 1e, MARS for Savage Worlds…

Possibly more of it is cool but publishers don’t name their stuff well. “Oh yay, ppv1.pdf! I can’t wait!” PUBLISHERS, NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR WEIRD CODES. Have it if you must but then put the name of the darn product in the filename.
